Construction Questions

The Town Of Flower Mound is one of the strictest when it comes to building codes. For example, you have to have a building permit to just replace a fence post. Storage buildings, even small ones, have strict codes about distance from property lines and construction.
(But virtually all shed storage buildings are prohibited by the HOA restrictions anyway.)
Even the installation of gas logs in your fireplace needs a permit and an inspection before use.

To find out if you need a city permit or an inspection go to the website below.

Trash Pick Up

Bulk trash is NOT picked up every week. Placing bulk trash to be picked up several days before your bulk pick up day might be considered a violation of the city’s “unsightly property ordinance.” So that bulk trash is not left in view for more than just a few days, you may call for an extra pick-up from Allied Waste Services. There is a minimum charge for this service, and payment must be made in advance. Another option is that you may take your bulk trash to the landfill located at 801 E. College Ave in Lewisville on Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. You must have a current water bill and driver’s license with a Town of Flower Mound address to enter. The landfill can be reached at (972) 436-4217.

If you find that you often have more trash than will fit in a closed trash bin, you may also call the Trinity customer service number above to request a second trash bin.

The number to call for a replacement trash bin is for Allied Waste Services at (817) 332-7301. Call the city at (972) 539-7378 for order an additional bin, which would be an additional $7.95/month.

Our bulk pickups are on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month.

Walking your dog

Please do not allow your dog to defecate on another person’s property or any public property. Besides the obvious unclean nature of it, who would want to track the feces of someone’s dog into their home or automobile? If you dog does “make a deposit” it is your responsibility to remove and dispose of it. This includes in alleyways and easements.

It is unlawful to allow your dog to defecate in any city park.

The Town of Flower mound has several ordinances regarding this issue. They can be found in Chapter 6 ANIMALS, ARTICLE II.
“If a pet defecates in a public park or recreation facility, it shall be unlawful if the person in control of the animal does not immediately remove any excrement from park premises or dispose of it in a town-provided trash receptacle. If an animal running at large defecates in a public park or recreation facility, the owner of the animal shall bear the foregoing responsibilities.” Sec. 6-48, (c)

Lawn and Property Maintenance

Your neighbors appreciate the regular mowing and edging of your lawn.

A Reminder About Lawn Care.

The Town of Flower Mound is famous for its well-manicured lawns. Consequently, the city takes enforcement of the code for mowing lawns VERY seriously.

Since the town has required for decades, that ALL new subdivisions be set up as HOAs, with lawn care requirements, we can assume that this is also a means used to insure that the town’s homes have nice lawns.

Some HOAs monitor and approve every aspect of a property’s appearance. For example, in many of Flower Mound’s neighborhoods, the homeowner is required to get the approval of the HOA for ANY landscape or paint color changes. We do not do this. Aside from specifically prohibited items, our restrictions or regulations only require that the lawn be kept in a “neat and attractive manner”. This does not mean that it has to only be mowed. Neat and attractive means that the lawn must look nice. If you allow your lawn to dry up and look bad, it is in violation of the agreement the owner signed at closing.

So far this year we have had to take steps to mow three properties. Once the owner understood that they would be held responsible for the $40 a week to mow, edge and trim the lawn, they took over the responsibility. If necessary, we will do this again.

If you want to get an idea of what “neat and attractive” is, simply look at your neighbors. Many, if not most, of your neighbors take great pride in their lawns. They invest time and money. If the property next to them is dried up or has tall weeds, you can bet that the HOA or the city will hear about it and will quickly take action.

Please maintain your lawn in accordance with city and HOA regulations.
